PR&RD and Sanitation Department

The PR & RD and Sanitation Department, Government of Telangana, is headed by the Principal Secretary, PR&RD and Sanitation. It is the Nodal Department for the overall policy, planning, funding and coordination of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme with central share 60% and state share 40%, namely, the State Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) [SSBM (G)] for sanitation in the State. The Commissioner, PR&RD is the Project Director of SSBM (G).

Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin)

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put focus on sanitation, Government of India launched Swachh Bharat Mission on 2ndOctober, 2014 with an aim to achieve Clean India by 2019, as a fitting tribute to the 150thBirthAnniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji. The Mission shall strive for this by removing the bottlenecks that were hindering the progress during the previous programs and focusing on critical issues affecting outcomes.Government has launched the Swachh Telangana Mission with a goal of achieving “Open defecation free state” by 2019.

1. Construction of Individual House Hold Latrines (IHHLs), Community Sanitary Complexes, Anganwadi Toilets etc. for BPL and specific APL beneficiaries in the rural areas of Telangana,
2. Solid Liquid Waste Management
3. Menstrual Hygiene Management
4. Information Education and Communication on Sanitation
5. Human Resources Development towards Sanitation

Initiatives

1. Introduced and implemented the twin-pit toilet technology, which is a cost-effective, ecological.
2. Dustbins & Tricycles were distributed in all GPs across the State.
3. IEC - Massive campaigns conducted during Godavari, Krishnapushkaralu, Sammakkajathara, and other such major festivals using hot air balloons, vans, posters, Kalajathas, Swachhata Raths (Mobile IEC vans).
4. Conducted state level workshops for District Collectors, DRDOs and other District level officers and DSBMMC staff.
5. Engaged and empowered huge number of Swachhagrahis in promotional, verification and implementation activitiesof the program.
6. TOTs, trained masons, WASH Resource Persons aremade available in the field.
7. The Society for Social AuditAccountability and Transparency (SSAAT), Government of Telangana is being conducting ODF verification of self declared GPs across the State.
8. Maintaining transparency& accountability in implementation of the program through transaction based software.
